Global warming

Today I decided to ride to work, about 80km all up. Nothing exciting about the ride at all, just pleasant until the last 10km which was in heavy peak hour traffic.

Unlike Europe, most Aussie drivers do not care much for push bike riders, so it is important to be on your guard, prepare to take evasive action, and keep your energy levels up so you can sprint away from traffic lights etc.

Fortunately 70km of the ride is on bike track which is becoming better as time goes by!

I hope to be able to do this once or twice a week... leave the car at home and save on carbon emissions

  1. I only have just over 3km to bike to work:-) Trouble is, we have a few equinoxial westerlies blowing our way at present. They are worse on the east coast.... but it took me longer than usual to get home tonight... and I was puffing hard... straight into the face of a westerly! Sigh!

  3. Hey you obviously have this groovy new facility on your 'new' blog to get further comments on a thread e-mailed. I was able to do it when I commented. I looked up the settings page for my 'old age' blog and couldn't find such a setting. Maybe eventually...... Meanwhile... you are up with the new techno-whiz stuff more than the rest of us it would seem!!!

  5. Are you keeping a "seen on the way to work" bird list?

By the way, do you know what Darwin said of Australia?

"Australia is a rising child - too great and ambitious for affection, yet not great enough for respect"

  7. Good on you! Hubby always cycles to work, but it's in central London, and he takes his life in his hands most days. He got run down last month, no broken bones, but buckets of blood and a mangled bike. The driver didn't even stop!

ps. You've got your blog back, whey-hey!!
