  1. Such a beautifully sad poem simon. But I fear I will respond inappropriately to its message, as it just made me feel excited that I will be in France within not much more than two months!

  2. Actually on a slightly more serious note. I did a French literature paper in my misspent youth. I still remember the day the lecturer started off saying "Demain, des l'aube..." by Victor Hugo. The way she delivered it was just spellbinding. I still love to say that poem, and I think I say it with very similar rhythms to the ones she brought to it. Seldom has anything in education made such an impact on me.

  7. Simon: I have just come over from halmom's blog. You will be joining our gang very soon and one of the 'banned ones'!

I'm not a poetry fan actually. I like some of the so called classic poets but struggle with the new fangled non-rhyming sorts. I'm just a bit of a philistine really.

  11. Now I feel like an insensitive sheila! It's a beautiful wistful song, but it didn't make me cry.

  13. More sensible than me anyway simon.... I go there and read it and get cross over it. If I never went there in the first place, life would be much more peaceful!
